On Monday, May 18, 2025, the Director of the Institute of Area Studies, Thammasat University, Thailand, along with his delegation, met with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Nasseredin Heidari, and the embassy’s staff.
During the meeting, the institute announced its readiness to examine and implement ways of cooperation and interaction between universities and research and study centers in Iran and this university. The institute has awarded scholarships in the field of future studies of Southeast Asia and plans to add the field of West Asian studies to its fields, and requested cooperation from Iran in terms of content.
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Thailand, presenting a history of relations between Thailand and Iran, summarized the embassy's actions in recent years to strengthen relations between the two countries and expand cooperation in the economic, consular, scientific, and cultural fields, for the directors of the institute. He suggested that the capacity of Iranian universities, research centers, and think tanks for joint scientific research and exchanges be utilized, and the cultural resources of the embassy, especially the Al-Mustafa Educational and Research Foundation registered in Thailand and based in Bangkok, be utilized for translating and publishing Iranian books into Thai.
It was also decided that the introduction of this institute and its capacities be sent to Tehran and possible cooperation between the two countries be reviewed and announced.
In implementing the proposal of the head of the Thammasat Institute for Area Studies regarding the translation of a book on regional and joint economic issues, the ambassador of our country proposed the idea of defining and implementing a joint research project entitled "A Comparative Study of the Economic Philosophy of Resistance Economy of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei and the "Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy" of Rama IX, the father of the current King of Thailand, regarding the economic and social development of the two countries." This idea was welcomed by the board of the Thammasat Institute for Regional Studies and it was decided that the initial draft would be presented in English by the ambassador of our country. This university is the second university in Thailand that offers a variety of academic fields, and its graduates have important positions both inside and outside the country, especially in the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
