H.E. Dr. Nassereddin Heidari, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Kingdom of Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP and other international organizations in Bangkok, along with H.E Mr. Masoud Hamedanlou, Vice-Minister and Secretary of the Executive Council of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, met with H.E Madam Armida Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, on September 3, 2026.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted the convening of the Fifth Session of the UNESCAP Committee on Science and Technology and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United Nations in the field of information and communication technologies especially with regard to I.R. Iran's inherent capabilities. The Iranian side, while expressing readiness for a more effective presence in communication technology-related mechanisms within UNESCAP, announced the country's membership in the specialized working group of the Steering Committee of the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway (APIS), and underscored our country's determination to strengthen IT-based cooperation in the multilateral arena. The Executive Secretary of ESCAP also expressed hope that, given the projected opening of the Asia-Pacific Digital Solutions Centre for Sustainable Development (APDSCSD) in Kazakhstan's Astana, we will soon witness more synergy between the Islamic Republic of Iran and other UNESCAP members who are active in providing digital solutions within the UNESCAP framework.
